Statutory Disclosure in terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 37 of 2002 ("FAIS")
Last updated: 13 July 2026
This disclosure is provided so that you know exactly who you are dealing with, what advice you are receiving, who is accountable for it, and how everyone in the process is paid — before you make any decision.
1. How Health Adviser and Health Capital work together
Health Adviser is a technology platform that lets you compare medical scheme plans, gap cover and rewards programmes. It provides comparison tools, the SmartMatch® recommendation engine, and the systems your adviser uses to serve you.
Health Adviser is not a Financial Services Provider. It does not render financial advice in its own name, is not licensed to do so, and does not earn commission from any medical scheme.
Health Capital CC is the licensed Financial Services Provider through which all advice on this platform is rendered. Any recommendation you receive — whether generated automatically by SmartMatch® or given to you personally by an adviser — is rendered under Health Capital's FSP licence, and Health Capital is accountable for it.

3. What kind of advice you are receiving
There are two distinct things that happen on this platform, and it matters that you can tell them apart.
a) SmartMatch® — automated recommendations. When you complete the needs analysis, SmartMatch® compares available plans against the information you provided and shows you those that best fit. This is generated by software, based solely on what you told us. It is rendered under Health Capital's FSP licence.
SmartMatch® can only work with the information you give it. It does not know anything you have not told it. If your circumstances are more complex than the questions allow for — or if anything you entered was incomplete or inaccurate — the results may not be appropriate for you.
b) Advice from a FAIS-accredited adviser. When you connect with an adviser, you receive personal financial advice from a qualified, accredited individual acting as a representative of Health Capital. Your adviser will conduct a full needs analysis, recommend a plan, and provide you with a Record of Advice setting out what was recommended and why.
We strongly recommend you speak to an adviser before making a final decision. SmartMatch® is designed to narrow the field — not to replace a conversation with a person who is accountable to you.
4. How we are paid — full remuneration disclosure
You pay Health Adviser nothing. Nothing on this platform costs you anything, and the contribution you pay to your medical scheme is exactly the same whether you use an adviser or not.
But you are entitled to know how everyone in the chain earns money, so here it is in full.
Your adviser (Health Capital) earns the statutory broker commission. When you join a medical scheme through an adviser, the scheme pays that adviser a commission that is regulated and capped by law — currently 3% of your monthly contribution, capped at a maximum of R125.86 excl. VAT per month. This amount is prescribed by the Council for Medical Schemes and is revised annually. It is the same regardless of which scheme or plan you choose. It is paid out of your contribution by the scheme — it is not added on top, and it does not increase what you pay.
Health Adviser currently earns no fee from any scheme, gap cover or rewards provider. We have no commercial arrangement with any product partner, and therefore no financial interest in which plan you choose. SmartMatch® ranks plans solely on how well they fit the needs you entered.
5. Conflicts of interest
Conflict of interest for financial service providers is largely underpinned by an FSP having more than 30% of its business with one product supplier. Health Capital does not have more than 30% of its business with any single service provider. Health Adviser and Health Capital do share common ownership.
6. Your rights
- You are entitled to a Record of Advice setting out the advice given to you and the basis for it. This is provided to you through the platform and is retained on record.
- You may ask your adviser any question about a recommendation, and may decline any recommendation.
- You are entitled to all product information, including exclusions, waiting periods, late joiner penalties and any restrictions, before you commit.
- You may request the disclosure of any commission or fee payable in respect of any product recommended to you.
- Do not sign any blank or incomplete document. Do not be pressured into a decision.
7. Important product warnings
- Waiting periods and late joiner penalties may apply. Late Joiner Penalties are prescribed by law and may apply permanently, based on your age at joining and your history of previous cover. Your adviser will explain these.
- Gap cover is not a medical scheme and is not a substitute for medical scheme membership. It is a short-term insurance product with its own terms and providers.
- Medical scheme benefits, contributions and rules are set by the schemes and change from time to time — typically annually.
8. Complaints
